Settings
Open Settings at the bottom of the sidebar.
- Updates: the version you run, Check for updates, and whether Recern checks on its own. A downloaded update waits until you restart.
-
Help: What's new lists the changes in each version; Report a problem writes an email to the Recern team with the version and system details you choose to include.
-
Theme: System, Light or Dark. System follows the operating system.
- Refresh views every: 2, 5, 10 or 30 seconds, or Manual. The Queries view refreshes at most every 10 seconds.
- On launch, open: the Dashboard or the last connection you used.
- Connect automatically: None, All except production, or All. Production servers are only connected when you open them, unless you choose All.
Backups & recovery
Workspace 1.0.0 creates local checkpoints before a profile upgrade and before installing an app update. In Settings → Backups & recovery, create a manual copy or choose a verified copy to restore after restart. Restore first preserves the current profile, disables automatic connections and resets app-statistics sharing to off. Password stores and database contents are excluded. See Backups & recovery for the exact contents and limits.
Context menus
Right-click a connection, table cell or text field to open Workspace's context menu. Connection actions include opening, editing, connecting and disconnecting. Table cells can copy a cell or row; editable text has clipboard and selection actions. Use the arrow keys to navigate, Enter to activate and Escape to close the menu. Clipboard contents are read only after an explicit Paste action.
Privacy and app statistics
Share app statistics is off by default. Enable it only if you want to contribute installation statistics. What data is shared? opens a separate explanation before you decide.
After permission, Workspace sends at most one report per UTC day while running:
- Workspace version;
- operating system and numeric OS version;
- processor architecture;
- a random installation ID created only after permission.
The receiver derives the country from the network connection. It counts opted-in installations, not distinct people or everyone who uses Workspace. Multiple devices, reinstallations and enabling sharing again can increase the count.
Queries, database contents, connection names, credentials, file paths, interactions and crash reports are not sent. Cloudflare processes the connecting IP to deliver the report and estimate the country; the telemetry database does not store IP addresses. Reports expire after 90 days. Offline reports are dropped without a queue or retries that day.
Turning sharing off stops future reports, cancels pending requests and deletes the local consent and installation ID. Reports already received expire under the normal retention period. Enabling sharing again creates a new ID. No report or installation ID is created before consent, including after upgrading from 0.2.0.
Menu bar and tray
Recern adds an icon to the macOS menu bar, or the system tray on Windows and Linux, with every connection, so you can open one without switching windows first.
