Workspace changelog
Changes included in published Workspace releases. The app also shows these notes under Settings › What’s new.
1.0.0
- Microsoft SQL Server: sessions, locks, query-cache performance, tables, columns and indexes, with diagnostic availability based on the login's monitoring grants. The console always accepts bounded read-only SELECT/CTE queries, with history, saved queries and CSV/JSON exports.
- SQL Server connections use SQL authentication, a fixed TCP port and verified TLS, including private CA certificates and SSH forwarding. Tested against SQL Server 2022; Azure SQL, Windows/Entra authentication and automatic instance discovery remain separate work.
- SQL Server reads have row, column, response-size, lock-wait and request limits. Results preserve bigint/decimal precision, duplicate column names, Unicode and nulls. Cancellation requests TDS Attention and closes the connection; a missing acknowledgement is reported explicitly. Access & limits reports visible write/admin grants and recommends a dedicated read-only account.
- Failed password-store or connection-file writes now compensate earlier credential changes before reporting failure. Connection IDs are assigned before saving passwords; development secret files use private atomic writes.
- Updates require their authenticated version to match the manifest. A failed pre-update backup keeps the verified download available for retry.
- Compatible installer rollback uses an explicit minimum settings-reader version; unknown formats and newer reader requirements still block profile writes.
- Local settings recovery: automatic checkpoints before profile upgrades and installing updates, plus manual backups and restore in Settings. Copies include connections, queries, SSH trust, preferences and drafts, with integrity checks and replay after interrupted restore.
- Restoring settings first preserves the current profile, waits for restart, disables automatic connections and resets app-statistics sharing to off. Password stores and database contents are excluded.
- Failed connection-file writes now preserve the previous in-memory state; connection/query files use private atomic replacement.
- Damaged startup settings now leave a recovery screen available: choose a verified local copy or cancel an invalid queued restore. Damaged originals and journals are retained.
- Restored preferences and drafts now survive a restart even when the WebView has not finished saving its browser storage. Native recovery tests exercise real relaunch, interrupted writes and rollback on macOS, Windows and Linux.
- macOS builds are universal, Developer ID signed and notarized. Windows 1.0.0 is released without Authenticode; Windows may show an unknown-publisher warning. Update payloads on every platform remain signed and verified separately by Tauri.
0.5.0
- OpenSearch: inspect cluster health, indices, nodes, shards and mappings, and browse documents in manual pages. Run read-only JSON searches with query history, saved queries and CSV/JSON export.
- OpenSearch connections support HTTP Basic authentication, an optional index or alias scope, private CA certificates and verified TLS, including through SSH forwarding. Tested with self-managed OpenSearch 3.3.2; Elasticsearch and managed-service authentication are not supported in this release.
- Keep OpenSearch searches bounded: at most 1,000 documents and 8 MiB per response, with a 5-second search timeout, an 8-second server cancellation interval and a 10-second client deadline. Incomplete results are labeled; stopping a request stops waiting in Workspace while the server may finish cancellation.
- Access & limits shows visible write/admin grants and clearly marks account permissions as unverified when they cannot be established. The adapter always reads only, even when the account has write privileges; scripts, aggregations, inference and search pipelines are not exposed.
- Production connection guidance now recommends a dedicated read-only account, explicit query limits, separate analytics capacity where appropriate and an isolated test environment. Safe Mode does not replace database permissions or prevent expensive reads.
0.4.0
- Cassandra: inspect keyspaces, tables, columns, secondary indexes, reported topology and local compaction metadata. Run bounded read-only CQL SELECT queries with history, saved queries and exports.
- Qdrant: inspect collections, dense and sparse vector configuration, payload indexes and paginated points. Run filtered vector queries, scroll, count and retrieval in the read-only JSON console.
- Both adapters support private CA certificates and SSH forwarding while keeping certificate verification. Qdrant uses a separately stored API key and can scope a connection to one collection.
- Connection round-trip charts report measured request latency. Missing diagnostics and partial catalog totals are shown explicitly. Stopping a request stops waiting in Workspace; the server may finish its read operation.
- New reproducible fintech demo data covers a distributed Cassandra ledger and Qdrant merchant similarity search.
0.3.0
- MongoDB: inspect collections, documents, indexes and current operations, with activity charts and a read-only JSON console. Use a separate authentication database and preserve BSON types in JSON exports.
- ClickHouse: inspect running queries, tables, skipping indexes, parts, merges, mutations and replicas, with bounded read-only SQL, cancellation and CSV/JSON exports.
- MongoDB and ClickHouse can verify private TLS certificates with a local PEM CA bundle. ClickHouse also preserves certificate verification through SSH.
- Slow refreshes no longer pile up or replace the current connection's data with an older response. MongoDB document browsing skips collection statistics; slow statistics return partial values with an explanation while keeping the collections visible.
- Right-click context menus for connections, tables and text, with keyboard navigation and native clipboard actions.
- Share app statistics only after opting in under Settings → Privacy. A separate “What data is shared?” dialog explains the fields, anonymous installation counts and retention.
- Reproducible fintech demos now include MongoDB merchant compliance and ClickHouse payment analytics.
0.2.0
- MySQL connections: Overview, Sessions, Locks, Queries, Tables, Indexes, InnoDB, Replication and a cancellable SQL Console. Missing diagnostic permissions are reported in the affected view.
- Query history persists between launches. Save named queries for one connection or all connections of the same engine, search them and load them into the console.
- Export displayed SQL results as CSV or JSON, and Redis replies as JSON, into Downloads/Recern. Truncated results stay clearly marked.
- Organize connections into named groups and choose their order independently of environment labels.
- Safe Mode stays enabled when switching the engine of a production connection. SQLite blocks ATTACH, unsafe pragmas and file-writing functions; MySQL uses a read-only transaction and rejects file output and session mutation.
- Recern Vector 0.2.0: read committed WAL changes, inspect int8 and f32 collections, and display the actual file format version.
- PostgreSQL with pgvector gets a Vectors view: vector columns, HNSW and IVFFlat indexes with their distance and parameters, search settings, index builds and the slowest vector searches, with findings such as a large column without an index.
- Redis, Valkey and Dragonfly with a search module get a Vectors view: search indexes with vector fields, documents that failed to index and the reason, vector memory, and Redis 8 vector sets.
- SQLite database files: Overview with free pages, the write-ahead log and findings, Tables with sizes and unused space, Indexes with foreign keys that lack one and indexes another already covers, Pragmas with an integrity check, and a Console that is read-only in Safe Mode.
0.1.0
- Recern updates itself. It checks recern.net in the background, downloads a new version and asks before restarting. Settings › Updates can check now or turn this off.
- What's new, in Settings, lists the changes in every version.
- Report a problem, in Settings, writes an email to the Recern team with the app version and system details you choose to include.
0.0.1
- PostgreSQL: Overview with insights, Sessions, Locks with wait trees, Queries from pg_stat_statements, Tables, Indexes and a Console.
- Redis, Valkey and Dragonfly: Overview, Memory with key patterns, Clients, Slow log, Keys and a Console that knows which commands only read.
- Recern Vector database files: Overview, the HNSW index and recall against exact search.
- Production connections start in Safe Mode: Recern only reads from them.
- Connections through SSH, with password, key file or ssh-agent sign-in and host key checks.
- A dashboard across all connections, search with ⌘ K, light and dark themes, and a menu bar icon.
